ROSEANNE BARR ANNOUNCES RUNNING MATE FOR PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN
Roseanne Barr announced that Cindy Sheehan will be her running mate in her bid for the Peace and Freedom Party’s nomination for President. Sheehan is an anti-war activist who first gained national attention for her protest camp outside then-President Bush’s Texas ranch.

Barr said, “Cindy and I are the ‘Throw the Bums Out’ ticket and the ‘Ballot Access’ ticket. We want people to register in the Peace and Freedom Party so that the party can keep its ballot status in California.” After the passage of the ‘Top Two primary” in 2010, alternative political parties lost one of their ways of staying on the ballot. The Peace and Freedom Party needs approximately 40,000 more registrants to maintain its ballot status beyond 2014. “We also want people to start Peace and Freedom Parties in other states,” added Barr.

Former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who has been working closely with Barr on this campaign, commented, “Access to the ballot is a civil rights issue that needs attention across the country. If voters only have two choices, both of which represent the same interests, then we don’t really have a democracy.” McKinney went on to describe a higher standard of democracy, “When I was in Congress, I promoted proportional representation for legislatures. This is the only way to make our democracy representative of the people, rather than the corporate donors.”

The Peace & Freedom Party nominating convention takes place on Saturday August 4th in Los Angeles. Cat Woods, an officer of the Peace & Freedom Party, echoed Barr on the party’s emphasis on ballot access. She said that the party hoped to “draw attention to the ongoing erosion of alternative parties’ access to the ballot and how this directly deprives voters of control of their government.”

When asked whether she supported the Barr ticket, Woods added, “Our party needs to reach a wider audience with its message of socialist solutions. Roseanne Barr and Cindy Sheehan can bring that.”
Responding to charges that she could “steal votes” from Obama or “spoil the election,” Barr said, “The American people are sick and tired of this ‘lesser evil’ garbage they get fed every election year. Both the Democrats and the Republicans do the same evils once they’re in office. I’m here to tell the voters: if you want to tell the government and the two domineering parties that you’re sick and tired of all their evil, register in the Peace and Freedom Party and vote for me and Cindy.”

  3. Congratulations Cindy and Roseanne! I'm sure you'll be critisized for being jokesters, but I would suggest it is Obama and American national politics that is the joke. Best wishes to you both! <3

  4. Thanks for running Rosanne & Cindy. I am constantly asked who else is there to vote for this year? Now I can give an answer.

    My Best,
    David Grace

  5. This makes 2012 a tough decision for me, since I'm a serious Green, but I just asked my fellow Greens NOT to get upset about this because it's not as though either Roseanne or Jill are going to cost each other the blue state of California, and it will mean one more act of defiance.

Is Peace and Freedom on the ballot in any states but California?

    1. greens don't get upset - you vote is important who-ever you choose. Peace and Freedom or Green, both represent Peace. We don't care who brings the peace as long as they bring it to the political potluck : )

  6. I love 'em both, but you know which candidate will be hurt in November if they suck up too many votes of the politically pure. There are more intelligent ways of advocating a more sane approach to nationhood without ushering in another four years of George W. Bush and his cheerleaders. The U.S. Supreme Court will have at least two vacancies in the next four years. WE MUST VOTE STRATEGICALLY. AT LEAST WE'LL HAVE ROOM TO MANEUVER WITH OBAMA. There is plenty of time to rebuild our country with the safe zone of the Democratic Party. You're right, the two party system, ANY TWO PARTY SYSTEM BEING BRIBED IN PLAIN SITE, IS BAD. However, the county won't survive a Romney presidency. It simply won't. Purity is good, but success is best.

    1. "Room to maneuver," sure.

If the last four years are what it looks like for the Left to have a President who gives us "room," I shudder to think of what his next four years will look like.

SCOTUS is only one part of our political system. It's absurd to use it as a never-ending excuse to put off calling out users like Obama (and Kerry and Gore before him) for their unprincipled B.S. In the name of SCOTUS we're told to vote for perpetual war, fiddling while climate change wreaks havoc all over the world, bank bailouts, corporate healthcare bailouts, dwindling reproductive rights for women (especially poor women), and so on and so on.

I don't know who'll I be voting for in November, but as Obama and Romney are nothing but fingers on the same fist, you can be damn sure that I won't cast a vote for either of them.

  7. They will get on in other states under different labels. This should be fun

  8. I disagree with Ann Garrison and I'm not even a Green. This is not good. Unless there are facts that I’m not aware of, I’m very disappointed in Roseanne Barr and in Cindy Sheehan.

Roseanne tried to get the nomination for president in the Green Party. She lost to Jill Stein. So she ditches the Greens and goes to another party? What kind of behavior is that? She’s acting like an incredibly self centered egotist that can’t accept the discipline of politics in the real world. She should be out there campaigning for Jill Stein.

The progressive Left suffers from an inability to come together and find a unified voice that can express itself electorally. Roseanne and Cindy are hurting more than helping.

    1. I am a Socialist, Russell.
The Green Party is not a Socialist Party.
I don't think Capitalism can be reformed like the GP does.
Who/what are we hurting, exactly, Russell?

I would consider joining the GP if it rejects Capitalism and embraces socialist revolution.

Why doesn't the GP "unify" around that idea?

I think Capitalism actually does more harm to this country, peace, and planet than any little thing I could ever conceive of doing.

    2. It's likely I'll vote Green this year, but I've got no beef with Barr and Sheehan for staying in the race.

There are few enough people advocating for real alternatives to the horrors peddled to us constantly by The Big Two every election. At this point, the more the merrier so far as I'm concerned.

  9. Cindy,

Two things the campaign@ email going to roseanne's campaign site looks amiss. It's bouncing..

    And..
I'd strongly recommend that you folks run a None of the Above campaign, based roughly on the fictitious candidacy for Mayor of New York in Brewster's Millions starring Richard Pryor.

  10. Go Roseane!!! Go Cindy!!! Let's let America know that we ARE NOT a two party nation. YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE. And, unless people are willing to vote with true conviction to their principles, our voices will always be silenced by the Republicrats.

Cindy and Roseanne want to introduce us to a new way, a better way to be as a nation of diversity and as an example to the World. This is serious, people, we must be heard. This is our opportunity to let our friends and neighbors know that PEACE, not war is the way - OUR WAY!

  11. I just can't bring myself to vote for Obama; and Mitt Romney is the Devil! Obama told us he would end the wars, but he commits murder daily and then brags about murdering rebels in Afghanistan; and now we have new wars in Libya and soon Syria and Iran. Obama told us he would reduce oil and gas consumption, but then he gets on national TV and brags about how he has approved more drilling and gas permits than oil-man-Bush. Obama told us he would get guns off the streets and out of the hands of right-wing nut jobs, but did absolutely nothing to forward this.

The only good thing Obama did is keep gas prices high and stop the Capitalist-Economic Machine from destroying more land, water and the air we breath.

Cindy and Roseanne get my vote.
