Statement on Prosecution of Former High Officials We urge Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a non-partisan independent Special Counsel to immediately commence a prosecutorial investigation into the most serious alleged crimes of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Richard B. Cheney, the attorneys formerly employed by the Department of Justice whose memos sought to justify torture, and other former top officials of the Bush Administration. Our laws, and treaties that under Article VI of our Constitution are the supreme law of the land, require the prosecution of crimes that strong evidence suggests these individuals have committed. Both the former president and the former vice president have confessed to authorizing a torture procedure that is illegal under our law and treaty obligations. The former president has confessed to violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. We see no need for these prosecutions to be extraordinarily lengthy or costly, and

3 Soapbox Cheers for Sean Penn and Lance Black!

Cindy Sheehan's Soapbox Congrats to our friend, Sean! Milk is the first movie that I got to visit the set when it was filming and it is the first major premiere that I got to attend (at the Castro Theatre here in SF), and I am so excited that Sean Penn (friend and supporter) won the Academy Award for Best Actor. In my opinion, Sean deserved the Oscar! It is so awesome, too, that such an incredible personality as Harvey Milk, who was so important to San Francisco, in so many more ways than just civil rights for the gay community, was honored in such a courageous performance! My friend, Lance Black, also deserves congratulations for getting the Academy Award for best original screenplay. One day when Lance and I were visiting shortly after the premiere, he told me that Harvey Milk was his hero and inspiration and he really brought Milk and that era to life for the big screen. Could You Do It?

Could You Do It? Cindy Sheehan Yes, they are getting ready for another war. Why shouldn't they? It pays high dividends. But what does it profit the men who are killed? What does it profit their mothers and sisters, their wives and their sweethearts? What does it profit their children? What does it profit anyone except the very few to whom war means huge profits? War is a Racket by Major General Smedley Butler Could you plunge a knife into the heart of a sleeping baby or into the stomach of a pregnant woman? Could you shoot an entire family while they slept cozily in their beds at night? Could you pick off students with a sniper’s rifle one-by-one as they skipped out of school while viewing their innocent faces clearly through the scope? “No!” Why not? “Because I am not a psychopath,” you smugly tell yourself. What if you could murder these people long distance by either ordering their killings, or pressing a button from hundreds, even thousands of miles away that would drop a dead

Open Letter to Barack Obama from Cindy Sheehan re: Flag draped coffins

February 17, 2009 Dear President Obama, Recently, your Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said that the DoD would be "re-evaluating" the blockade on the press taking photos of the returning flag-draped coffins from the illegal and immoral occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1991, George H.W. Bush signed an executive order banning those photos and early on in George W. Bush's War OF Terror, his mother, and the wife of the 41st president, Barbara, agreed with that order saying that she did not want to "bother her pretty mind" with the images. President Obama, first of all, you do not need to have the DoD "re-evaluate" that order. In the transparent Republic that you claim to seek, the Department of War should never get to pick and choose what the members of that transparent Republic see. That seems like military tyranny to me. You can sign an Executive Order reversing the one that the first President Bush signed during the First Gulf War. Secondly,
