2013 Recap and Looking Forward to 2014 for the Soapbox!

December 29, 2013

Dear Friend,

2013 was quite a year for our Soapbox and me.  We accomplished a lot for our cause, and we also had a chance to sit back and watch the Empire crumble from within, and root for its inevitable collapse.

As humans we can rightly decry the violence inflicted on little children in their Kindergarten class in Connecticut, and still be ashamed of the hypocrisy of a president who cries crocodile tears over their loss, but then orders the drone bombing of weddings and funerals in other parts of the world. The citizens of Boston were exposed to what citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan and other colonies see everyday: Tanks and troops infesting their streets.

Who predicted the disaster of ObamaCare? (Me and a lot of other people, by the way). The total cluster-fudge of the “roll-out” combined with the CYA scrambling of the administration would have been amusing if so many people weren’t already harmed because of lack of health insurance in this country, and so many people losing the insurance that Obama promised they could keep.

On the beach in Santa Monica (April 07, 2013)

Somewhere in Missouri

While all that was going on, we took positive action. From April 04 to July 03, Tour de Peace had a successful bike trip for peace and justice from California to WashedUp, DeCeit. The crew and I had many wonderful adventures and hopefully in 2014 we are going to put out a “travelogue” called: 2013: A Bike Odyssey. When the pressures of life and of being an activist overwhelm me, I think, “hey lady, you rode your bike across the country—that’s pretty badass—you can do anything!”

http://cindysheehanssoapbox.blogspot.com/p/order-marbles.html
At the end of 2013, I published my seventh book: “I Left My Marbles in San Francisco: The Scandal of Federal Electoral Politricks” about my run for Congress against Nancy Pelosi, with an After(math)word about my run for VP with Roseanne Barr.

Besides throwing my hat in the ring to run for Governor of California in 2014, I will make sure that the Soapbox will continue as a counter-balance to the BS propaganda of not just the “Robber Class” media, but the so-called “liberal” media that seems to be going to the right, right along with the Democratic Party. Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox will celebrate our five-year anniversary with our first show of the year on January 5th which will feature Icelandic Parliamentarian Birgitta Jonsdottir who will tell us about the wonderful things happening in her country—like the jailing of big bankers--and how we can model their fight here in the homeland of the Empire.

Listen, or re-listen, to the most popular show of 2013 with Dr. Helen Caldicott about Fukushima entitled, “Use your head, Cindy.”

On April 04, my family will not just be mourning the 10th year of our dear Casey’s death in Iraq, but also the tragic continuation and expansions of the longest “wars” in US history

Along with campaigning for Governor and continuing the Soapbox, I will be working on a documentary I hope will be released on August 6th, 2015, which will be the 10th anniversary since we set up camp in Crawford, TX, at what became known as Camp Casey. The working title is Prairie Fire: The Camp Casey Story, and we will let you know more information as it comes along.

We at Team Soapbox are so grateful for your support and would be so happy to get your end of year (tax deductible, if you desire) DONATION.

You can count on me to be persistent in my quest for peace. I won’t stop until the Empire does!

Hoping 2014 brings (true) peace, prosperity (for everybody), and environmental healing. Arm in arm, we are going to make some real progress.

Cindy Sheehan

PS: Let's never forget the good people that left us this past year, including, but certainly not limited to Nelson Mandela and Hugo Chávez (not eulogized by Obama, but loved by his people). Presente! May we all find healing in love and solidarity.

Final Show for 2013!
Happy New Year!
JFK: Sinner or Sacrificial Lamb
GUESTS
NATHANIEL HEIDENHEIMER
ARGUES THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB SIDE
ANDY PIASCIK ARGUES THE SINNER SIDE

I have no "dog" in this "fight" that is still a controversy after 50 years.

The only thing I do know is that USA didn't become a bad place on November 22, 1963.

I think JFK lost a power struggle between two opposing cabals of the "ruling" class, but much of the speculation about what would have happened if he weren't assassinated is just that: speculation.

Help Get Cindy Sheehan on the Ballot
Join the People’s Power Petition Campaign

Support the real deal. Support cindy

California allows candidates to get on the ballot in one of two ways:
·       Pay a substantial sum of money, a “filing fee”
                                        or
·      Take your case to the people to get their signatures on a petition to show they want you on the ballot.
To get on California’s ballot as a gubernatorial candidate, Cindy Sheehan needs 10,000 signatures from registered voters.
So, if 100 people get just 100 signatures each  we can get Cindy Sheehan on the ballot and spread the word about the campaign and the type of future we want to build in California.
Together we can make this work.
Volunteer Now.

Cindy Sheehan to pull papers for Gubernatorial Candidacy in Fairfield, Ca: For Immediate Release

When: Friday, December 27th; 10:30am

Where:

Front Steps
675 Texas Street
Fairfield, CA 94533

"Peace Mom," Cindy Sheehan of the Peace and Freedom Party has announced her intention to challenge Democratic Governor Jerry Brown for his office in the open June primaries.

From her home in Vacaville, Ca, Sheehan said, "Jerry Brown has had the temerity to proclaim that 'California is back.' I am a born and raised Californian and I know who the state is really 'back' for: Jerry Brown and his cronies in private education, private prisons, and big oil. The time is now for the 99% to take this state back for we the people."

Sheehan continued: "California is near the top (or at the top) of the nation for homelessness, for those incarcerated, for unemployment and near the bottom for measurable education standards. Against the wishes of his base, but in allegiance to his big donors in Big Oil, Governor Brown has opened more precious land for the disastrous process of hydro-fracturing. The social safety net is being tightened like a noose around the necks of vulnerable Californians, like the mentally ill, seniors and students and the situation gets worse at the hands of the Democrat and Republican politicians."

In 2008, Cindy Sheehan came in 2nd against then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the battle-cry of her campaign for June is: "Second place wins the Race." The Sheehan for Governor, 2014 Campaign is very optimistic that in June Cindy Sheehan will come in at least second and that will give the people of California a chance to learn of a Better Way for California.

"With the wonderful natural and financial resources of this State and with the energy of the people, we can End Poverty in California; clean and restore the environment; empty our prisons of non-violent offenders and dramatically increase funding and the quality of public education; house the homeless and feed the poor with healthy non-GMO foods. We have an ambitious program, but I will never, ever give up my struggle for peace and economic justice. I want people to support themselves, their families, their communities and their state by supporting and voting for me," Sheehan concluded.

The Sheehan campaign will kick off it's drive to collect 10,000 signatures by February 15th on December 27th when she picks up her papers from the Solano County Registrar of Voters.

Cindy Sheehan is a Vacaville resident whose oldest son Casey was killed in Iraq on 04 April, 2004 and has become an internationally known peace-activist, author, and podcast host.

Censorship from stage "Left;" Ted Rall on the Soapbox (Soapbox Podcast, 12/22/13)

Cindy Sheehan's Soapbox
December 22, 2013

GUEST: TED RALL

SUBJECT: POLITICAL CARTOONING
AND LEFTY CENSORSHIP OF SAME.

Cindy and Ted share their experiences of being banned from the CIA-Democrat website,
The Daily Kos.

Ted Rall is a syndicated cartoonist and columnist for Universal Press Syndicate. Author of 17 books, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and twice the winner of the RFK Journalism Award, Rall's cartoons and columns appear in The Los Angeles Times, MAD Magazine, Medium.com and numerous other online and print publications. His next book is "After We Kill You, We Will Welcome You As Honored Guests: Unembedded in Afghanistan" (Hill & Wang, March 25, 2014).

Scrooge-onomics, USA by Cindy Sheehan

-->
I am not writing this to put a damper on anyone’s Holiday (Christmas) Spirit at all, but I think most people who read my articles will already be on board with this essay.

First of all, the big phony debate about the “war on Christmas” is another “shiny key” of the ruling class to distract us from its support of such things as real wars that murder people and demolish infrastructure. Low-liars like Bill O’Reilly of Fox Noise don’t mind these real wars, but just say, “Happy Holidays” and you are evil!

Secondly, and selfishly, on my part, the last time I saw my son Casey alive was 10 years ago at Christmas. In March he deployed overseas and on 04 April of 2004, he was killed. I remember the first Christmas that we endured without him, I was in a department store buying gifts for my other children, and I had to run out of the store because I had a powerful urge to close up on myself and scream by lungs out. After 10 years and four grandbabies, this time of year is a little easier, but I have learned to live without Casey as I imagine that I would learn to live without an arm or a leg. Millions of people have experienced similar Imperial-loss since 9/11/2001 and my sorrow extends that many times.

We know that this Season is a lonely and painful season for many, not just me, but I have a growing concern about the growing homelessness rate. One article says that 20,000 people PER NIGHT are homeless in Los Angeles and another article tells us that in three weeks in one of the wealthiest communities in the country, San Francisco, seven homeless people have frozen to death. Here in the states, and my state, there are five empty housing units for every homeless person, but the systemic concern is for the banks and not the person. This is a trend that can be reversed, but only when we force the change.

“Santa Claus” is not a socialist, because from the youngest of ages, we who are not born of the parasitic one-percent recognize that he must love rich kids more than us. Furthermore, we are subliminally conditioned to accept this lot as the way things are and that rebellion is disordered. Under-advantaged children in the Oakland area are writing to Santa for necessities, and as sad as this is, the even sadder thing is, many of them won’t even have those wishes fulfilled: Especially the heartbreaking requests that Mom/Dad gets a job this year. Besides the unemployed and underemployed, Grammy and Poppa are losing the pensions they slaved away for decades so the Capitalist class can support their addiction to immoral excess. I wish the stories I have quoted were isolated incidents, but the problem of poverty and want is widespread.

Many people will debate all day long if our economy is “Capitalist,” “Corporatist,” "Socialist (LOL)," or “Fascist,” but at this time of year especially, I am convinced we live in an era of modern day “Scrooge-onomics.” The gap between the “haves and have-nots” is widening at an alarming rate, but there is also a “compassion” gap that only we can close.

It is said, the older one gets, the less he/she wants, but the things we do want can’t be bought. This is my holiday list: I want Peace on Earth, for real, not just a Hallmark card. I want everyone in a warm home. I want everyone’s bellies to be satisfied with healthy and plentiful food. I want everyone to have a good job, or a basic guaranteed income. I want our prisons emptied of non-violent offenders and aggressive rehabilitation for the rest. I want healthcare and education as rights, not privileges. I want more resources devoted to mental-healthcare. I want families to stop being divided by the crimes of the government. All of my dreams could easily become realities if the US ended its devotion to the over-bloated military budget and started investing in helping people, not killing them.

I am not greedy; I want greed to end as basic human needs are fulfilled.

In my honest opinion, it doesn't matter if you say, "Merry Christmas," or "Happy Holidays." Words are cheap and hypocrisy is costly; don't look away from those less fortunate than you, and there's always someone less fortunate that you, unfortunately.

Merry/Happy, the best we can, wherever we are.

Cindy Sheehan for Cal Gov Comprehensive Plan for Income Equality

Cindy Sheehan for Governor of California stands with other activists and socialists in calling or a 15/hr minimum wage, but we feel that even this falls far short of where we need to be in a society that has a more just distribution of wealth.
To equalize the distribution of wealth, along with a minimum wage, there must also be price freezes to start to drain some of the income from the deep and seemingly bottomless pockets of corporate CEOs and other management. Along with price freezes,

discussion of a "minimum" wage must also be accompanied by talk of a "maximum" wage indexed to what the lowest paid worker of any place of employment/corporation receives to insure a fairer distribution of profits.

Cindy Sheehan for California Governor is in complete agreement with the platform of the Peace and Freedom Party about employment and wages:

Labor and Full Employment:

  • We demand a socially useful job at union pay levels or a guaranteed dignified income for everyone.
  • We support the establishment of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) to alleviate poverty and homelessness.
  • We call for a 30-hour work week for 40 hours' pay and abolition of forced overtime.
  • We demand a legally mandated annual paid vacation of at least 4 weeks.
  • We demand expansion and enforcement of job health and safety laws. We call for the restoration of all labor rights previously won by women and their extension to men as well.
  • We demand paid parental leaves and time off work for childcare.
  • No prison labor for private profit. Living wage and full union rights for any prison labor.
  • Defend workers' rights to organize, form union caucuses, strike, and boycott.
  • No replacement of striking workers.
  • Federally-funded public works programs to rebuild the nation's infrastructure and restore the environment.
  • International solidarity of workers against international capitalist schemes such as NAFTA and WTO in defense of jobs, wages, working conditions and environmental laws.
  • International trade agreements must guarantee the protection of workers and democratic rights in all participating countries.
  • A rank and file socialist-oriented labor movement to mobilize working-class people to assume ownership and control of the economy.

COMMENT FROM A CONSERVATIVE AFTER CINDY'S APPEARANCE ON THE POWER HOUR:

Thank you for your time. I am hearing you on a replay of The Power Hour with Joyce Riley. Forgive me; I used to vehemently disagree with you, but as I listen to you speak instead of hear media talk abaout you, I think you're making way too much sinse! I respect your stand of civil disobedience as a peaceful tax resistor. I pray for the courage to make a conscientious stand against the IRS as well.
I am interested in learning more from you. I consider myself a conservative (not part of the "uniparty"), but a Christian first. I want to support good & not bad.
I hope to hear you again soon.

Turkey Trotting for Charity by Cindy Sheehan

As a vegetarian and acknowledging that necessities like food and shelter are human rights and a compassionate society would spend more on social safety nets than war and tax breaks and concessions for corporations and the wealthy, I ran in my 3rd Turkey Trot race for charity on Thanksgiving morning.

Not only is it a great way to start a weekend of culinary and materialistic gluttony, but the annual race raises about 40-50k for four charities that provide food and shelter to the disadvantaged of Solano County.

Architect of Change: Cindy Sheehan for Cal Gov, 2014

Minerva the Roman Goddess of Wisdom (and War--since there is absolutely NO wisdom in war, I don't know how that works) is featured on the California State Seal. She was put on the seal, because California's entry to the union was fast-tracked because of the discovery of gold and "sprung from the head" of empire, as Minerva sprung, fully-formed, from the head of her father Jupiter. As a history major in college, I heavily concentrated on California history: the good, bad and sometimes VERY ugly.

While waiting for a flight one early morning at the airport in Sacramento, I wandered through an exhibit from the California History Museum and came upon the above pictured piece and found her interesting. I have never seen Minerva represented at the "Architect of Change," but the idea intrigued me.

California is allegedly progressive, but we have long been under the domination of the white-male Demo-Publican paradigm. Why have we never had a female governor, nor a person of color since Californio Romualdo Pacheco in 1875? To me, California is sinking in the mire of the status quo and the only thing that can save the state for the 99.9% of us is a true Architect of Change.

Positive change does not come about by supporting the same policies and people who have led us into the swamp. California needs new blood, new ideas, new energy and someone who is dedicated to the people and not the once-mighty buck.

Cindy Sheehan for Cal Gov, 2014, is that campaign. We are running on an EPIC (End Poverty In California) platform and invite you to check out the website for the campaign and the platform of the Peace and Freedom Party.
