THE CALL OF THE ELECTION BOYCOTTERS

Whereas both major political parties have sold out to the Wall Street banks and multinational corporations with no allegiance to the Nation or the people,

Whereas third parties have no possibility of winning the Presidential election due to corporate control over the media and the electoral process,

Whereas three decades of solid efforts to reform the electoral process have been subverted by the corporate state,

Whereas participation in this process lends legitimacy to a system that has lost its legitimacy,

We hereby refuse to vote in the 2012 Presidential elections.

---

Please take note! We are only calling for a boycott of the *Presidential* election. We encourage people to register to vote, go to the polls on election day and vote for local candidates and initiatives. Our boycott of the Presidential election is not a call for apathy. It must be combined with other forms of activism and organizing to get corporations out of the political process, including fighting for a constitutional amendment abolishing "corporate personhood," a legal status conferred upon corporations by the Supreme Court, which grants them first amendment protection to pump billions of dollars into electoral campaigns.

  2. I am so with this Terri!! No way do I want to give any more energy to the farce, I want to give my energy to END it and a voter's boycott is a great tool. Let them see we have removed our consent to be misled and ill governed and let us work like mad to make our local communities disaster proof and self sufficient as possible so as to reduce dependence on the federal govt in the meantime. I keep getting asked "well if this doesnt work for you what is your alternative?". My Answer is Bioregional state divisions, decentralized govt and a planet before profit (including the critters running around ON it)ethic. Can't happen without a revolution, the 1% won't let it so it's nowhere near immediately doable but the idea makes sense in a way that reeks of inevitability and can form a basis for people to begin to imagine their way out of the box they have been told is the world all their lives...

    1. Explain about the bioregional state divisions, Malcolm. I like your ideas.

  3. Terry Lee should have an opportunity to make her case. But Cindy should ask her some hard questions. Will the boycott be visible in the vote totals, as votes for socialist candidates are? How many people have to join the boycott before anyone notices that it happened? What further action does a boycott build toward, other than even deeper apathy and withdrawal?

The text above says "participation in this process lends legitimacy to a system that has lost its legitimacy". Does getting counted as an invisible layer of the 40 to 50 percent who never vote lend the system any less legitimacy? I think it lends more.

    1. Hey Bob,
Those are all great questions and this is a community participation call, so I would urge you to be on the call and ask Terri yourself. If you can't be on the call, I would be happy to ask your questions and the recording will be available later.

      Thanks!
      Cindy

  4. Just wrote a small bit on this exact topic. Personally I'm going 3rd party but we all know that that is as good as a no vote. At any rate, the 'real voting' needs to take place on the street. Put your boots on...and see you in the trenches. https://www.facebook.com/notes/tesha-miller/the-politics-of-no-choice/10151223448533126
