Since at least 1945 when the USSR liberated the Nazi death camps and largely helped to defeat Nazi-ism and with the rise of the nuclear age, it's never really been about war with Russia or the USSR. The policy of containment and the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction has held the US super (dangerous) power in check.

However, we have seen a phenomenon recently about how Democrats, hoping that their party will prevail in November has pulled out all stops to bring the world closer to thermonuclear annihilation with their insane, yet calculated and manufactured, diatribes against the Putin/Trump summit.

As my wonderful guest, Luciana points out, it's also dangerous to assume that Trump is doing this for "peace." Trump is doing it for Trump and while neither leader can be trusted, we also have to reign in the "red-baiting" with some commentators opining that Trump committed treason because the unproven Russian hacking of US elections were an "act of war."
