I have long advocated for the seat of the central government of the USA be relocated to the geographic center of the contiguous land mass. Along with the many problems associated with the capital city built on a swamp, depending on where one lives, it can be expensive and inconvenient as hell to get to!

The geographic concerns and the seeming minimal interest in ending the wars combine to make trips to DC (or NYC, or Chicago, or Los Angeles) difficult for most. I rode my bike from California to DC in 2013, but not many people are full-time peace activists and can’t afford the time it takes (three months for me) or the time off of work.

So what do we do? Most of us who are still in this “antiwar” milieu have realized that the president of the US is really just a figurehead for Empire and that Congress is there to rubberstamp what the War Machine wants with very little show of opposition; so Why DC?

DC is the marbleized logo of power. I am not sure where decisions are really made, but I know the Imperial Pronouncements emanate from DC and I also know that large gatherings of courageous and determined humans have changed history in a positive way.

Spring Rising: An Antiwar Intervention in DC is our call to gather there from March 18-21 for four days of action designed to once and for all end the wars. Realistically, will this happen? We know it won’t happen if we all cocoon in our comfort zones.

We think it’s urgent for the planet to gather with us for these days (schedule), but if it’s not possible for you to meet us in DC, please organize local solidarity actions and we will be happy to help you connect with others in your area, if possible.

One person emailed to tell me that when we call for gathering in DC, it’s just our way of getting others to pay our ways there.

That’s a valid concern, but the organizations that are pulling this together are grassroots and not all of us think that “WashedUp, DeCeit” is an ideal place to spend a week. DC is really one of the last places I want to go to, but I have been there countless of times to protest and I can’t think of much site seeing that I have done. It’s a place that whitely shines with war memorial after war memorial but has an underlying feeling of black cancer. However, it’s also the place where a massive response needs to be mounted against the massive police state that is apparent there. We can’t wait for the “elected” War Criminals to grow a conscience—because historically few have had one. We can’t wait for others—we must be the ones.

The four day action will involve components of community building, protest, education, and planning for a future of protesting wars that will be more diverse, powerful, strategic, and, most of all effective.

Speaking from her home in Vacaville, CA; peace activist and human rights advocate Cindy Sheehan had this to say: "Organizing against the wars has been challenging during the Obama administration because so many people who would identify as 'antiwar' misplaced a lot of hope in Obama ending the wars. As a matter of fact, Obama has expanded the wars abroad, drone bombing, assassinations of US citizens without trial, and the police state here in the states. It's time to reclaim our principles as members of a global community and join together in Washington DC and stop giving Obama a 'chance."

Ms. Sheehan continued: "wars kill innocent people and our troops for the profit of a very few and wars get bi-partisan support in DC. Do you support war? Do you support allowing torturers and murderers of the Bush regime to go unpunished? Do you support drone bombings of innocent people and out of control cops here in the US? No? This is something that I don’t want to revisit—I never want to relive the worst experience of my life. However, with the 11^th anniversary of my son’s death in Iraq on 04/04/04 approaching and the new “blockbuster” infecting movie screens around the world, I really must get this off of my chest.

Most citizens of this nation are without a doubt addicted to wars and war “heroes” without stopping for more than a few cursory seconds to count the costs or evaluate the propaganda. I despair that a movie like American Sniper grossed over 105 million at the box office over the weekend where we are supposed to be commemorating the birth of a man of peace, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Everything in American Sniper is taken for fact when the author and focus Chris Kyle already had been proven to have been a blowhard and a liar, when the facts and political motivations of Selma are being questioned.

As is the US addicted to its wars, it is also addicted to lying about them and I know this because I have my own case about Casey for proof.

We got the news about Casey about 14 hours or so after his detail had been ambushed in Iraq. After I lie on the floor screaming for I don’t know how long, the three emissaries of death couldn’t really tell us much except that he was Killed In Action (KIA)—I still can’t see a KIA brand car without my heart sinking.

Since Casey’s murder, I have found out so much about the US military I had no idea about, but when a group of troops (Battalion? Unit? Army? Murder?) get deployed to combat, some stay back as “Funeral Duty.” Two such persons came to Casey’s funeral and regaled us with stories about what a wonderful mechanic he was and how he had “volunteered” to go on the mission that killed him. Even though neither story rang true to me, I absorbed them like a dry sponge (as I was from all the tears I shed) wanting to hang on to some news of my son because he had only been there in Iraq a few days before he was killed. We didn’t even know he was stationed at Camp War Eagle right in the heart of Sadr City, Baghdad.

Casey had joined the Army in the year 2000 for college benefits and with the promise from his lying recruiter that he could be a Chaplain’s Assistant. I knew from our many conversations that Casey hated being a Humvee mechanic, but that was the only MOS (military job) available when he got to boot camp.

Also, the very final time he was home (oh, how I wish I knew for sure it was the final time, I would have carried out my half-joking threat to run him with my car just enough to disable him) at Christmas of 2003, he told everyone he was just going to “do his job” and come home safely because, as a Christian and gentle man, he could “never kill anyone.” All of this didn’t jibe at all with Casey “volunteering.”

By drips and drabs, the truth came out. Much has been written with the Imperial spin about 04/04/04 in Sadr City—about how the First Cavalry (Casey’s unit, or whatever) was attacked by the residents of Sadr City, but from unembedded journalists we have found out that the 1^st Cav went out to provoke a response to show the residents who was “in charge now." April 4^th was also right after the mercenaries of Blackwater had provoked the residents of Fallujah into an uprising that resulted in the highly publicized deaths of several mercenaries.

Four years after Casey died, I received an email from one of his buddies who was right next to him on that fateful evening.

The vet started his email with, “Sheehan was a great guy, but he was a lousy mechanic.” Which made me smile, because it rang true, but then he delivered the coup de gras:

“I don’t know why you keep telling everyone it was Bush’s fault, it was Sgt. (Name withheld by me)’s fault. He made your son go on that mission and in fact told him to ‘get your goddamn ass on that truck’ after Sheehan had said, ‘no, I am not going, I am only a mechanic.’”

Even though I sobbed when I read that, I knew it was true. Casey knew he could never kill anyone and to me he is far more of a hero for not wanting to kill than is Chris Kyle for his self-proclaimed "more than 250" murders of what he called “savages.”

How much courage does it really take for a sniper to be given co-ordinates from a spotter and then firing from hundreds of yards away? To me that is the definition of cowardice even forgetting about the lies that got both Casey and Kyle to Iraq and the ones who made billions in profits while Casey died thousands of miles away from his loving home and a vet with PTSD would ironically end up murdering Kyle back here in the states.

I will always be proud of my son who is a grand hero to me for refusing orders in the heat of battle and ashamed by a cold-blooded killer like Kyle and a nation that lifts him up as the standard of heroism. I find it supremely ironic and sad that NOT being a killer is frowned upon here while being a happy killer makes one a best-selling author and garners all kinds of award nominations and ticket sales for those who wish to exploit this nation’s bloodlust.

This truly makes me wonder if there is any hope to end the evil of US empire, or are we doomed to “wash, rinse, and repeat” these stories of infamy and tragedy over and over again until the USA collapses from the weight of all the carnage.

With full disclosure, I have not seen director Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and furthermore, I have zero plans to do so. I have also never had bamboo shoots jammed into my fingernails, but I have a feeling that procedure would also be painful and vile.

The film is based on the sniper’s book of the same name. The sniper’s name was Chris Kyle and as most of us know, he was ironically murdered by a young vet on a gun range—something about those who “live by the sword” and such.

Besides Kyle’s apparent glee and pride in murdering people in his role in the illegal, unwarranted, inhumane, and bullshit war in Iraq, the only other thing I need to know about him is that he called the Iraqi people “savages.”

Even some members of the US “antiwar” movement seem to care more about the lives of The Troops™ than the innocents put in harm’s way by the policies of the US War Machine. The context of Kyle calling Iraqis “savages” is sadly already well established in the US, but is over-the-top thrilling to Reich-wing war lovers.

Of course, the term “savages” has been used throughout US history to kill, imprison, intern, nuking, or displace millions of people and Kyle lines up behind other war criminals that also delighted in murder. Centuries of dehumanizing the “other” has been deeply ingrained in all of us and it does takes a shoehorn, or murder of ones oldest son (for example), to pry us out of that stinking thinking.

Basically, those are my feelings about the film and the response for awards, accolades and defense of the war criminal Kyle. Along with another glorification of the War State (Zero Dark Thirty) winning best film title at the Oscars last year and Hollywood’s long history of working with the Pentagon (or War Department) to make decades of Warnography, I was reminded about an episode in my own history.

Soon after I camped out in Crawford in the summer of 2005 and became the latest cause célébre of the faux-gressive set, a film producer named Jill (I cannot remember her last name—lots of people gone under that bridge) approached me saying that she wanted to do a feature film about my story. Soon after, she lined up noted director Mimi Leder to direct the film and noted actress Susan Sarandon to star in the movie playing moi. Obviously, I thought this film was a done deal.

I had meetings with them, but by 2007, the film was dead in the water with really no explanation. I remember they kept asking me to sign over my rights to my memoir Peace Mom, and I would patiently explain to them that I did not own the rights that Simon and Schuster did. One day I got an email from an attorney saying that since I wouldn’t co-operate, the project was over. Interesting, that was after I left the Democratic Party and resigned as the face of the antiwar movement. Even though Jill and company kept dangling the promise of a film over my head for a couple of years, I got no compensation for that stall tactic.

Then shortly after the collapse of the first film, I was approached by Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner of Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B so they could option the rights to my story. Again, we had many meetings at their office, interviewed screenwriters, and I signed the uncompensated options, but after more delays I was told, “movies with an antiwar theme just don’t make any money.”

I don’t know in either case if the rights were optioned to prevent a movie about my story with an antiwar theme being made, but I do believe that it’s a sad commentary on our war-saturated and blood-soaked society that Warnography and glamorizing psychopaths and psychopathic behavior not only do big box office and win awards, but also define the very culture that spews it up.

The above is a quote from the War Criminal in Chief Barack Obama in his statement about the miscarriage of justice that just happened in Ferguson, MO.

The deep irony is that this man is the figurehead of the most violent, racist, and deadly empire in the history of our planet.

What he said was, “There is never any excuse for violence,” but what he meant was, “there is never any excuse for violence from oppressed or occupied people—I, however, can bomb people, torture people, assassinate people without trials, spy on people AND shoot your kids down in the streets.”

In my opinion, the burden of “peace” is not on the shoulders of oppressed or occupied people. It is a human right to defend ourselves and our loved ones.

Obama also said, “the police put their lives on the line for us everyday.” Really? I don’t see an epidemic of cops being killed, but I sure see a huge rise in cops murdering people with virtual impunity.

Of course, we do live in a violent society from the top on down. War and violence is the first response from the top and cops are being given clear permission again and again to respond with lethal force when non-deadly forms of apprehension are used on mostly white criminals.

In Ferguson, protesters may be throwing bottles and breaking windows, but I am viewing heavy armored personnel and vehicles moving through the streets of Ferguson and are attacking the protesters with tear gas and threats of deadly warfare.

The doublespeak of Empire is nauseating and Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox and Soapbox People’s Network are providing an opportunity to go to DC in March to let Obama know that we think that police state violence is totally unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated.

With the pending grand jury decision in the Michael Brown murder in Ferguson, MO, The Soapbox is replaying a show we did with four extraordinary people whose lives were devastated and changed when a loved one was murdered by cops.

Christina Arechiga – Sacramento, CA– Prison right activist for over 15 years then changed focus to police brutality when her first cousin Ernest Duenez Jr was murdered by John Moody of the Manteca PD. Now works full time as a private investigator and in the CA Statewide Coalition Against Police Brutality for all families who have been victims of law enforcement corruption and working on changing procedures and laws allowing such corruption.

Rosemary Duenez – Lathrop, CA – a mother and grandmother whose son Ernest Duenez Jr. was murdered by John Moody of the Manteca PD on June 8, 2011 – Ernest 34 yrs old was a father of an 11 month old son at the time, the Duenez family maintains weekly Sunday protests at the Manteca PD and is actively working with the CA Statewide Coalition Against Police Brutality. They fought to have the dash cam video released to them and they in turn released to the public in their fight for justice. Their civil case is currently in the federal courts in Sacramento, Ca and trial will begin in early 2014. The officer was cleared by the DA’s office but the family maintains an ongoing investigation and continues to put pressure on law enforcement to be accountable and file murder charges.

 Denika Chatman – Vallejo, Ca – mother of Kenneth Harding 19 years of age was murdered on July 16, 2011 by San Francisco Police and then left to bleed out while medical personal was not allowed through police barricade – she moved her family back to California from Seattle to fight for justice for her son and holds monthly feeds for the homeless in the spot that still is stained with the blood of her son. Aka the Kenny Feeds held by the Kenneth Harding Foundation – they have recently been blessed with a new location in a church to continue their work. She is currently in a civil trial.

Sheehan's prophetic writings about the trajectory of the Obama presidency have been collected in this book which is an historical document about the downslide of the US antiwar movement and the profound similarities of the two corporate political parties here in the US.

Cindy Sheehan has never given up and believes that the only way to bring peace, prosperity, safety and a healthy environment is by people here in the US breaking their chains to political partisanship and working together to overthrow the existing paradigm.

Sponsorships of $20-$49 will receive one of the first copies (signed by Cindy) of the book and sponsorships of $50 or above will get their names in the acknowledgements as well as an autographed copy of the book. This money will go toward editing and formatting  the nearly finished book for publication.
