Comedian/talk show host Ellen is not the first liberal to cozy up the the repulsive War Criminal, George W. In fact, First Lady Michelle Obama was one of the first nouveau-celebres to make it “cool” to love George—and, why not? She sleeps with a War Criminal every night, I presume. But, if Lady M loves someone, then much of the Obama base start to forget the murderous/callous/disastrous regime of George.

 Both maniacs running are pro-war, but why does one get a pass for his Iraq War record? Why is war such a small part of the debate?

Did you know that Biden promoted the false claims of WMD’s and wanted an invasion of Iraq before Bush ? Here are the facts:

 

Biden Shepherds the War Authorization

It is difficult to over-estimate the critical role Biden played in making the tragedy of the Iraq war possible. More than two months prior to the 2002 war resolution even being introduced, in what was widely interpreted as the first sign that Congress would endorse a U.S. invasion of Iraq, Biden declared on August 4 that the United States was probably going to war. In his powerful position as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he orchestrated a propaganda show designed to sell the war to skeptical colleagues and the America public by ensuring that dissenting voices would not get a fair hearing. 

As Scott Ritter, the former chief UN weapons inspector, noted at the time, “For Sen. Biden’s Iraq hearings to be anything more than a political sham used to invoke a modern-day Gulf of Tonkin resolution-equivalent for Iraq, his committee will need to ask hard questions – and demand hard facts – concerning the real nature of the weapons threat posed by Iraq.” 

It soon became apparent that Biden had no intention of doing so. Biden refused to even allow Ritter himself – who knew more about Iraq’s WMD capabilities than anyone and would have testified that Iraq had achieved at least qualitative disarmament – to testify. Ironically, on Meet the Press last year, Biden defended his false claims about Iraqi WMDs by insisting that “everyone in the world thought he had them. The weapons inspectors said he had them.” 

Biden also refused to honor requests by some of his Democratic colleagues to include in the hearings some of the leading anti-war scholars familiar with Iraq and Middle East. These included both those who would have reiterated Ritter’s conclusions about non-existent Iraqi WMD capabilities as well as those prepared to testify that a U.S. invasion of Iraq would likely set back the struggle against al-Qaeda, alienate the United States from much of the world, and precipitate bloody urban counter-insurgency warfare amid rising terrorism, Islamist extremism, and sectarian violence. All of these predictions ended up being exactly what transpired. 

Nor did Biden even call some of the dissenting officials in the Pentagon or State Department who were willing to challenge the alarmist claims of their ideologically-driven superiors. He was willing, however, to allow Iraqi defectors of highly dubious credentials to make false testimony about the vast quantities of WMD materiel supposedly in Saddam Hussein’s possession. Ritter has correctly accusedBiden of having “preordained a conclusion that seeks to remove Saddam Hussein from power regardless of the facts and . . . using these hearings to provide political cover for a massive military attack on Iraq.” 

Supported an Invasion Before Bush

Rather than being a hapless victim of the Bush administration’s lies and manipulation, Biden was calling for a U.S. invasion of Iraq and making false statements regarding Saddam Hussein’s supposed possession of “weapons of mass destruction” years before President George W. Bush even came to office. 

As far back as 1998, Biden was calling for a U.S. invasion of that oil rich country. Even though UN inspectors and the UN-led disarmament process led to the elimination of Iraq’s WMD threat, Biden – in an effort to discredit the world body and make an excuse for war – insisted that UN inspectors could never be trusted to do the job. During Senate hearings on Iraq in September of that year, Biden told Ritter, “As long as Saddam’s at the helm, there is no reasonable prospect you or any other inspector is ever going to be able to guarantee that we have rooted out, root and branch, the entirety of Saddam’s program relative to weapons of mass destruction.” 

Calling for military action on the scale of the Gulf War seven years earlier, he continued, “The only way we’re going to get rid of Saddam Hussein is we’re going to end up having to start it alone,” telling the Marine veteran “it’s going to require guys like you in uniform to be back on foot in the desert taking Saddam down.” 

When Ritter tried to make the case that President Bill Clinton’s proposed large-scale bombing of Iraq could jeopardize the UN inspections process, Biden condescendingly replied that decisions on the use of military force were “beyond your pay grade.” As Ritter predicted, when Clinton ordered UN inspectors out of Iraq in December of that year and followed up with a four-day bombing campaign known as Operation Desert Fox, Saddam was provided with an excuse to refuse to allow the inspectors to return. Biden then conveniently used Saddam’s failure to allow them to return as an excuse for going to war four years later. 

Biden’s False Claims to Bolster War

In the face of widespread skepticism over administration claims regarding Iraq’s military capabilities, Biden declared that President Bush was justified in being concerned about Iraq’s alleged pursuit of weapons of mass destruction. Even though Iraq had eliminated its chemical weapons arsenal by the mid-1990s, Biden insisted categorically in the weeks leading up to the Iraq war resolution that Saddam Hussein still had chemical weapons. Even though there is no evidence that Iraq had ever developed deployable biological weapons and its biological weapons program had been eliminated some years earlier, Biden insisted that Saddam had biological weapons, including anthrax and that “he may have a strain” of small pox. And, even though the International Atomic Energy Agency had reported as far back as 1998 that there was no evidence whatsoever that Iraq had any ongoing nuclear program, Biden insisted Saddam was “seeking nuclear weapons.” 

Said Biden, “One thing is clear: These weapons must be dislodged from Saddam, or Saddam must be dislodged from power.” He did not believe proof of the existence of any actual weapons to dislodge was necessary, however, insisting that “If we wait for the danger from Saddam to become clear, it could be too late.” He further defended President Bush by falsely claiming that “He did not snub the U.N. or our allies. He did not dismiss a new inspection regime. He did not ignore the Congress. At each pivotal moment, he has chosen a course of moderation and deliberation.” 

In an Orwellian twist of language designed to justify the war resolution, which gave President Bush the unprecedented authority to invade a country on the far side of the world at the time and circumstances of his own choosing, Biden claimed that “I do not believe this is a rush to war. I believe it is a march to peace and security. I believe that failure to overwhelmingly support this resolution is likely to enhance the prospects that war will occur.” 

It is also important to note that Biden supported an invasion in the full knowledge that it would not be quick and easy and that the United States would have to occupy Iraq for an extended period, declaring, “We must be clear with the American people that we are committing to Iraq for the long haul; not just the day after, but the decade after.”

There’s never been a more crucial time for all of us to consider the power of going local. According to a World Bank/OECD survey, over the last six months, a staggering 1 in 4 of all small businesses have reportedly closed around the globe, with 1 in 5 staying closed even after pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Helena explains that localization is about supporting local shops, local farms and farmers’ markets and smaller businesses, not only through our consumer choices but also through strategic policy shifts. ‘It is the process of building economic structures which allow most of the goods and services a community needs to be produced locally and regionally wherever possible. It’s about keeping money within the community and investing in the places where we live.’
 
The need to localize becomes particularly clear when you consider that, in the global economy, our everyday food is flown around the world before reaching our plates. Fish caught off North America and Europe is flown to China to be deboned, before being flown back again. Argentinian pears are packaged in Thailand and sold in the US. The US imports and exports a billion tons of beef every year. What’s more, none of the carbon emissions from all this trade are accounted for by any country. 

Earlier this year, Local Futures launched World Localization Day, an initiative to inspire awareness about the growing worldwide localization movement. Key participants included Jane Goodall, Brian Eno, Russell Brand, Vandana Shiva, Noam Chomsky, and Bayo Akomolafe, writers Charles Eisenstein and Johann Hari, as well as actors Damon Gameau and Thandie Newton.

Helena believes a collective wake-up is imminent. ‘It’s not too late to find our way back home—towards healthy, interconnected local economies,’ she says. ‘Let’s embrace an economy that rebuilds community and restores the Earth.’

The Ineffectual and Dangerous Concept of Lesser-Evilism by Cindy Sheehan

 

The recent Dump Trump, then Battle Biden piece written by Noam Chomsky, et al and signed by a few dozen liberal activists and authors, who recycle this twaddle every four years, makes many logical, factual, and rhetorical errors.

Arguably, the main error is that no matter how terrible is a Democrat candidate for POTUS; no matter how many wars he supported; no matter how many women/girls he publicly molested; no matter how many cops went un-prosecuted; no matter how many immigrant families were separated at the border; no matter how many billions of dollars were transferred from the poor to the already wealthy; no matter how much corruption and pork barrel politics have been tied to him; and no matter how far he has gone in a state of mental decline; etc: THAT HE OWNS OUR VOTES.

According to the letter, the signers are not in love with Democrat candidate Joe Biden, but it seems their only “beef” with him is that he is “beholden to the elites.” He IS one of those political elite and has been a profound part of the decadence and violence of the U.S. political establishment for decades and an architect of many of the paths that led the U.S. straight to a Trump regime.

Another rhetorical and factual error in the very title of this piece is that after Trump is dumped that these same people will “Battle Biden,” their very support of him waters that threat down.s PLUS it’s been historically shown that these same liberal forces will NOT “Battle” a Democrat. They may make peeps and squeaks during a Democrat regime, but deep into the 3rd year of the election cycle, they will revert to the same rubbish demonstrated in this letter. 

The most troubling aspect of this is that many of these signers lead progressive movements and have considerable influence over people who are disgusted with the current climate and establishment politics and may be leaning towards voting for alternate candidates to the Twin Parties of War and Wall Street. However, feeling politically fearful, they then may in turn be influenced to support the Empire by garbage like this. I have worked with many of the signers and they have done some very good things, but, in my opinion, their support of an anti-democratic candidate like Biden in a nation where elections are routinely compromised, makes their other work lose credibility. Many claim to be “anti-Capitalist, pro-feminist, and antiwar," but their advocacy for a Capitalist, deviant, war criminal undermines their stated values.

I believe that no political party or candidate is entitled to our votes, or support, but if the signers of the DTBB letter want to vote for a major War Criminal and elitist, that’s their own business. However, making a public political statement leaves them open for exposure and criticism.
 

Didn't the Obama regime prove that no matter who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, the bloody U.S. empire continues, because the problem is systemic, not cosmetic? Voting for Joe Biden will be just like slapping a fresh coat of white paint on a dilapidated building and thinking everything is somehow fine now.

Should Trump be "dumped?" 

Of course, but in a country with actual political opposition, more viable options, and real, not false, democracy, Trump never would have happened in the first place.

It is also time that intellectuals and activists stop pretending that every bad thing about this country started with Trump.  The signers of the Dump Trump then Battle Biden could use their considerable influence to lead their followers to true change and a better society, instead they choose to vote-bully out of fear and feckless assertions.

Our friend Kevin Zeese suddenly passed away from a heart attack at aged 64 on September 6, 2020.

 

Kevin was a very kind person, father, partner of activist Margaret Flowers, and generous activist himself who was always very open with his time, resources, and energy to many movements: from antiwar, to national healthcare, to Venezuela solidarity, and Green Party politics (and much more). I first met Kevin in May of 2005, about a year after my son Casey was killed in Iraq. We worked with other activists in exposing the 2002 Downing Street Minutes which showed that the US's invasion of Iraq was definitely based on lies. 

 

We send our love and condolences to Kevin's family and his partner Margaret Flowers.

Where Nancy lied to  Cindy, saying, "You help us win the house net year and we'll help YOU end the wars." 

In the summer/fall of 2005, I became quite the cause célèbre of the Democrat party and their sycophants after I sat in a ditch in Crawford Texas to demand a meeting with then president George W. Bush to ask him "For What Noble Cause," he had killed my son, Spc Casey Sheehan and hundreds of thousands of others in Iraq: both civilian and military.

 

It was fashioned as a "David v. Goliath" moment as a grieving mother had the audacity to demand a meeting with the "most powerful" man on the planet. Of course, I never got my meeting, but clever democrat political operatives like Nancy Pelosi saw me and the antiwar movement as a way for her Democrats to win back the majority in the House and create the "First Female Speaker of the House."

 

As the photo above shows, I did meet with her in September of that year and she told me straight to my face, "Cindy, if you help us (Democrats) win the House next year, we'll help YOU end the wars." Shame on me, because I believed that lying venomous snake posing as a human being, and I did go all over the country speaking at rallies opposing the republicans and supporting the Democrats. Well, like all venomous snakes, she struck, and when she did become the "First Female Speaker of the House," she betrayed the movement in general, and me, specifically. 

 

Soon after the Dems were ensconced (for a bit) in the House majority, I left the party and soon after that, I announced that I would run against Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco because she refused to end the wars, or to hold George and Dick accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity: but what do Nancy P and her ilk care about humanity, as they are barely human themselves. (As an independent in 2008, I did come in second with almost 17% of the vote, but as we say "second place in only first loser").

 

Among the reasons for running against her, our campaign discovered along with the rest of the world, that while on the House Intelligence Committee, Nancy had been fully briefed on the torture methods being used against the so-called enemy, and she basically was reported as saying something like, "Can't we torture them more?" However, as righteous as our campaign was, most of the people of SF don't seem to mind they regularly re-elect a person of such low moral character and zero ethical accountability. It is also well-known that her husband Paul and Sen. Dianne Feinstein's husband Richard Blum have profited very handsomely from their wives' positions in government and they both have mansions there in Pacific Heights as testaments to their corruption and hubris.

It's not in the scope of the piece to detail every disgusting thing Pelosi has done for decades as a craven Dem operative, but let's fast-forward to the garbage year of 2020---the year California has been shut down and its economy one hair width away from total annihilation from all the proclamations and orders of Nancy's nephew (by marriage) Gavin Newsom. One of his authoritarian diktats was that beauty salons and barber shops must not serve customers indoors--(never mind very few can realistically move their sinks, chairs, hair dryers, etc, outdoors)---many salon owners, stylists, and barbers here and elsewhere are suffering heavily under these orders and many are single mothers who rely on their businesses to provide for their families. It's a very tough situation, to be sure. (Beginning September 1, it seems that salons and barber shops can operate indoors with strict protocols, but that was not in affect when Nancy went to get washed and blown out).

Well, this past weekend, it was revealed that Nancy's assistant made an appointment at a salon in San Francisco with one of the independent contractor stylists there. Exposed security footage revealed Nancy in the salon without a mask getting services. The owner of the salon Erika Kious made the footage available and her reasoning was that if a very powerful and fabulously wealthy woman in an at-risk age group could feel comfortable going into a salon to get services, then salons should be fully, and safely, opened and customers should also feel safe in returning. 

I just have to say that I don't believe Nancy's complaints that she was "set-up" and text messages between the salon owner and the stylist Jonathan (a supporter of Pelosi's) don't support his or Pelosi's version of the story. Nancy claims that she thought that each stylist could have one customer---well, if that were true, then all the salons and barber shops would just have been open, right? It's not a high worker per customer business in the first place. And Nancy should know that ignorance of the "law" is no excuse for violating it. If the top law-maker in the freaking country doesn't know what is going on in her own state, then she's more pathetic than I thought. 

 

Nancy claims that Erika owes her an apology, but how dare that elitist jerk that hasn't missed one paycheck (which she doesn't even need) this entire year shit on a working-woman who is seeing her hard work and business circle the cesspool that is politics in California. How dare the liberals in San Francisco support this war criminal over a struggling worker? Nancy has long owed the American people an apology and how long will this power-hungry oligarch be enabled in her crimes and corruption?

 

I already know that personally, and professionally Nancy is a skilled liar (honesty is not a known quality for a politician, especially one who has lied her way to the literal top) and I know that Erika is a Trump supporter, but when families are withering here in California, it's criminal to politicize Covid-19---if masks and deprivation are good enough for the people, then Nancy needs to put up or shut the hell up.

 

I am a socialist who opposes capitalism, but I am also pro-worker and pro-family and it's also been long overdue that both parties of war and Wall Street are defeated and deposed. Until that glorious time happens, we need to keep exposing the crimes of the "ruling" class and Nancy Pelosi is at the top of that dung heap.
